Strengthen Your Immune System

Updated: Feb 27, 2023

Kids are back in school and naturally they will be exposed to those pesky bugs that are then brought home to you. Fall allergies, busy schedules, and cooler temperatures are added to the mix which is a recipe for an immune disaster. You might find you're catching one head cold after another and afraid you will never feel well again. What's worse is the fear of how your body will handle getting Covid or the Monkey Pox Virus.

Let's face it. Getting sick sucks and now getting sick leans on the side of scary.

Isolation is a terrible solution for our immune system, our mental and emotional health, and even our communities.

But what if I told you that you CAN be doing something to keep yourself healthy. These things may not prevent you from ever getting sick, but they certainly set you up for better success in quicker recovery times, less severity of symptoms, and lower hospital stays.

We know that having 2-3 chronic diseases significantly increases your risk of hospitalizations and complications from the Covid Virus, vaccinated or not. Did you know that most of these chronic diseases are preventable through lifestyle?!

This is HUGE because it means you can DO many things to keep your body healthy and strong; no matter what life throws your way!

GET OUTSIDE!

Vitamin D has been shown to boost the immune system to fight viruses. One study showed that patients "who were Vitamin D deficient were 14 times more likely to have a severe or critical case"of Covid. Getting outside gives you fresh air, gets you out in nature, and helps you to relax or de-stress. All these benefits lead to a better, stronger immune system.

COOK MORE AT HOME

Cooking at home minimizes additives in your food like MSG and your food being cooked in rancid oils that increase oxidation and can cause cancer in the body. Cooking at home increases your likelihood of eating fresh ingredients. Those fresh foods, like fruits and vegetables, provide vitamins and minerals that feed our immune system. Protein is a building block for our anti-bodies. Do you want building blocks that are made from deep fried or processed food or anti-bodies built from lean, healthy sources of protein?

You are what you eat and your immune system will reflect that. Remember: making small healthy changes is better for long-term solutions.

GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK

Stress and being hyper-busy runs your immune system to the ground. Your body literally can't keep up which makes you more vulnerable to infections.

PLUG INTO A WALKING OR RUN CLUB

There are so many microbreweries that have run clubs. Guess what? Most of them attract walkers, parents with strollers, and dogs too! So don't let the "I don't run" excuse keep you from finding a group that not only gets you outside but gets you plugged into an active community.

By the way, exercise strengthens your immune system in a big way!

Other things to consider that I would recommend not navigating alone:

  1. Food allergy and sensitivity testing to identify what foods you are eating that can be weakening your immune system.

  2. Comprehensive Stool testing to explore if there are things growing in your gut that shouldn't be there and thus weakening your immune system.

  3. Targeted supplementation depending on what your situation is. Supplement are there to strengthen, restore, re-plenish, and promote healing.

Schedule a Discovery Call Today should you want to explore this further. In the meantime, get rest, feed your body whole and fresh colorful foods, get outside and move!
